Chapter one - The Desperate

They stood in front of the bleach white building for a few minutes, disguised as a trio of drunkards passed out across from their intended target. The building was fairly large in design, but was said to triple in size underground. It was a standard bank by all accounts, with the outside wall plated in thick metal as well as an invisible field of pure energy. "Ready?" asked the shortest man, taking a swig of the small bottle as he turned to both of the men at either side. Each nodded, taking a swig of their own bottles before depositing them in the drain under them. Though it was not alcohol in these bottles, it was a brew of chemicals that would allow their skin to assume the same heat signature of the outside air.
The three men had planned well for this night. Each had their designated roles and rehearsed this night to perfection. The leader, "Fox" by name, rushed to the left of the bank, hidden well from the infrared cameras that surrounded the structure, he quickly set up the traps in a semi-circle pattern around three "one-use" transporters that would detonate along with the other traps. His other companions, James and George stood on the opposite wall working on getting the 2 foot thick trapped steel door open.
As Fox came around to the other side, James and George had already gotten through half of the trapped locking set, hidden inside of the door. "Shouldn't be more than a minute or two, just like we rehearsed." said George breaking through yet another of the formidable locks. Formidable to civilians and mediocre thieves, but not to these trained individuals who had more experience with the traps and security systems than they had with their own children. "There." James said as he finished his half of the locks a few moments after George had finished his.
They were in.
The interior was an extravagant rectangular room, outwardly showing great wealth to all who entered the place. The floors were gold fringed tablets of polished marble with a rich dark wood running between them. The corners of the room were held up by pillars of carved statues, each corner out of a different colored metal and wood. The walls were dark now, but all three knew that they could visualize any scene downloaded onto front desk computer. Poles of polished metal came out of the floor in front of the service desks towards the back. Though lines were not normal in a place such as this.
"Turn on your shoes," Fox reminded the others as he typed in a code on the holographic pad that sprouted from his arm "and make sure they aren't bugged." The shoes, when turned on, would send out a hacking code that would temporarily knock out any microchips in the floors. This time of night the pressure sensors would be active and send a signal to the authorities as soon as someone stepped on the floor of the building that spared no expenses.
The trio, safe from any pressure traps, strolled across the room to the door set up behind the service desks, leading to a hallway with an elevator and restroom area. Knowing the elevator to be offline and likely trapped, the three went instead into the woman's restroom. Having rehearsed the entire operation multiple times, Fox immediately went for the next to last stall on the right. Planting small particle explosives in an almost perfect circle on the floor while the other two stood guard at the restroom entrance.
The information was indeed correct, for after the silent explosives detonated, a light drifted up from the hole leading to the second floor air vents. The three artists of thievery descended into the shaft, breaking into the second floor. The room was filled with a dim light outlining the bottom edges of curving walls that narrowed into a series of corridors. On both sides were doors to personal work stations and other facilities. Continuing past these doors of glass led to a fairly plain staircase that winded down to the lower levels. Led to the three vultures prize.
The vault room was a cylinder with four vault doors of different shapes and sizes, along with different stripes of color; green, red, blue, and silver. Though two of these doors were trapped, the three knew those to be the red blue and silver doors. The Red room held the financial accounts of all citizens in the city. The green held something much more valuable, therefore Fox, holding out his hand to keep the other two completely still, pulled out his x-ray monocle. Received by their employer, he knew it would help locate any hidden cameras and traps.
There were none except for in the vault doors. The green being the most protected of the four, requiring; eye recognition, DNA, and four separate key cards to unlock the door. Fox retrieved the detached eye from his pocket, along with a vial of blood. George and James held the four cards, along with four contraptions to swipe them simultaneously. The four corners of the room held key card analyzers, with the DNA and eye recognition just to the left of the green striped door.
The moment of truth was upon the trio and each one slightly trembled at the thought of successfully pulling off this, their greatest heist, as well of the item that lay just beyond that vault door. With perfect timing the well-trained team unlocked the door and began to open what would lead to the most important achievement of their lives, along with the prospects of retirement.
The door swung open without a sound, leading to a relatively barren, and small room with nothing marking it's walls or floors but a pillar holding three vials of liquid. Fox once again checking the room for traps or cameras found a single camera in the back left, though it's line of sight landed directly on the vials. "If they were at all smar-" George began to say, though the other two quickly covered his mouth hoping his voice had not triggered any unseen traps, sighed a quick sigh of relief as no sounds of alarm were triggered, though this did not promise anything as silent alarms were more common than loud ones. "hurry," whispered Fox, "I want to be out of here in the next ninety-five seconds."
At that the Fox ran silently across the metal floor and grabbed the three vials. Putting them delicately in his pack the three all but flew to the door where they had first entered. Still invisible to infrared cameras, they stood on each of the transporters and waited for the machine to charge.
Though no sounds came from them.
Fox looked behind him for an explanation from his two companions, ready to kill them if they had decided to turn on him. As he turned he felt two invisible objects fly past his hair, turning just in time to see George and James fall to the ground, their warm blood alerting the cameras to their presence. Their wounds appeared non-fatal, with but small wounds trickling blood out of their hands, Fox knew they were doomed to die. Even as he turned around he heard the guns going off behind him, led by the infrared cameras they shot at the new heat signatures so close to the bank.
At that moment a man appeared in front of him, turning off his camouflage he gazed into the pure hatred that was Fox's eyes. "Well I could have killed you as well." the man said nonchalantly as Fox brought his own gun to bear. A model TH-0545, a vile gun designed to first incapacitate enemies with the poison found in deep water fish of the Atlantic. Though this poison not only stopped movement, it also kept the victim conscious, then a second smaller capsule would explode, spreading a most potent acid into the victim. Leaving whomever was shot to lie on the ground for hours, unable to die, unable to move, unable to even pass out.
"Quite a remarkable gun you have there," said the man before Fox could pull the trigger. The next few seconds seemed to be a blur of motion coming from the man as he seemed to disappear and re-appear behind fox, holding a knife to his throat with his left hand, and in his right hand, The bullet! "H-How!" asked the stuttering Fox "Ah it must be that you have never heard of me, though it is a tragedy for your friends I offer you your life in exchange for your pack." Said the man applying a small amount of pressure to amplify his point. "Also a business proposal, and one I think you'll find quite to your own liking."
The two fiends left the crime scene, neither trusting the other, though both quite pleased at the turn of events. This was not the first time the stranger had recruited an artist of his own talents, nor would it be the last. Shouldering the pack the two left the city perimeters, silently and without alerting the robotic guards that were posted at every entrance, and entered the wasteland of broken homes. For this was the domain of thieves, this was the domain of Nyxx Furou.

it's set in the future about a man named Nyxx (go figure). He's an opportunist who manipulates those around him, friends and enemies alike, to bring him stability and power. The setting is an American society with closed borders and many separate self-governed states that make up the main controlling powers that compete for control. Leaving this very vague so be patient I'll have the first chapter out in a few days hopefully ;P
