"Why the hell do I have to follow that old mans orders? This is ridiculous, no wait, ridiculous is an understatement. I can't even think of the right word for this "training". All he's made me do is start building the bridge to this temple. This isn't training, this is just menial labor. Well atleast I got the bloody thing finished." I thought aloud, sitting on the edge of the new bridge, feet dangling underneath me as I waited for Rampa to finish with whatever he was doing. That was when I felt a light tap on the back of my shoulder
"Are you quite finished with your whining?" I heard my master say from behind as I turned to see him frowning at me, his hood now taken off
"Well if you would actually give me some training, instead of making me your lackey, I wouldn't have anything to complain about." I said with a deathly undertone that promised the old fool a long and painful death if he didn't prove himself soon
"You will not speak to me like that again Nyxx. Next time you will wish to trade places with any of your previous victims, I assure you of that." The old man stated bluntly, leaving his threat as an open challenge for Nyxx.
"Fair enough" I said sarcastically So what do you have planned now that the bridge is finished I said looking across the bridge leading to the newly flattened area of packed dirt I prepared the day before.
"Follow me." he said, walking away quickly, leaving no room for an argument or response on my part.
He walked directly to the area planned for construction, and sat in a cross-legged fashion.
"Sit in front of me, I will instruct you." He said firmly
So I sat, and waited. Then waited a bit longer. Then just as my frustrations were about to explode and I killed the man he spoke. "Eighteen minutes is your current limit."
"What do you mean by that?" I asked abruptly, and received a wicked slap on the back of my head for it.
"Do not interrupt, from now on if you speak without permission during our training sessionss, your punishments will become increasingly worse." He said coldly
This was not the same man I had met in the cave
So I raised hand halfway to ask again
"Is your hand raised?" he asked politely
That's right, He can't see "yes" I replied cautiously, prepared for another incredibly quick smack
"Good," he said "and it has been eighteen minutes since we sat down. I will begin you with meditation training. This will train your mind and make you one with your very being, are you ready?" He asked
"Yes" I said, intrigued by this unusual style of training. I had never heard of this "meditation" Technique he was talking about
"Good." he began "Now cross your legs and close your eye's. Where I am from, we chant a word to increase our focus. this is called using a 'mantra' It helps your mind clear of all other thoughts. Since you are new You will more than likely be able to do this for a short amount of time, so make sure you practice this three times a day. Once you are able to hold complete concentration for three hours at a time, we will move on to the next lesson. The practice ends when you notice your mind begin to wander, Once it starts to wander do not attempt to continue. Too much of this exercise can be detrimental to your health, and you must have a healthy body as well as a healthy mind, to have a healthy soul."
I lasted fourteen minutes before I had to quit. Though I could also understand what Rampa was trying to teach me, though only slightly.
I must continue to practice.
I must not fail.
I will learn what this old man has to offer, then dispose of the fool.
